A Roof for our Future

The roof at St Mary's is the original structure and therefore has been largely untouched for 160 years. Its age is now showing and there has been a history of leaks with resulting damage to the plaster and decoration inside the church, so the present generation of the St Mary's community, with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund, has undertaken a programme of renovation. The first stage is to renew the two inner faces of the roof between the nave and the north aisle and improve the drainage of rainwater from the gully between them. At the same time work will be done on the drainage from the flat roof of the tower, some replastering and redecoration inside the church as well as the renovation of some dangerously decayed steps to the cellar.
